Sri Lanka opt for youth

Veterans Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan have been dropped from Sri Lanka's 15-man squad for the one-day series in the West Indies, which begins on April 10.

Jayasuriya, 37, retired from Test cricket in December in the hope of prolonging his one-day career, but has endured a disappointing run since the World Cup and was below par during the recent Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia.

Muralitharan, 35, will reportedly now play in key ODIs only but will feature in the two-Test series which precedes the one-dayers in the Caribbean.

Mahela Udawatte and Ajantha Mendis will replace the two veterans, while fast bowler Lasith Malinga also misses out because of a knee injury.

Sri Lanka squad: M Jayawardene (captain), K Sangakkara (wicketkeeper), T Dilshan, C Vaas, C Silva, U Tharanga, C Kapugedera, M Bandara, K Weeraratne, N Kulasekara, A Mendis, J Mubarak, I Amerasinghe, M Udawatte, T Thushara.
