Sri Lanka selectors deselected
Sri Lanka have overhauled their selection panel a month ahead of schedule, reflecting their plight in international cricket.
The committee headed by Duleep Mendis was due to be replaced at the end of next month, but a new one has been announced with effect from today.
Chairman Ashantha de Mel, Don Anurasiri, Amal Silva and Hemantha Wickramaratne have been appointed on a one-year term by sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Anurasiri is the only member from the old panel, but de Mel and Silva have served as selectors before. Wickramaratne is new to the role.
Aluthgamage said it was the "responsibility of the Sri Lankan government and the Sports Ministry" to take "stern and appropriate action" to ensure Sri Lanka becomes "the number one team in the world".
Sri Lanka Cricket president Upali Dharmadasa has already been asked to submit a report to the ministry on the team's poor performances since the 2011 World Cup.
