TwelfthMan: My account
Sri Lanka's sports minister Gamini Lokuge has extended the term of the national selection committee by three months.
The four-member selection committee is headed by Ashantha de Mel and also includes Don Anurasiri, Ranjith Madurasinghe and Jayantha Seneviratne.
Their term had ended on December 31 but Lokuge, who last week dissolved the interim committee headed by former skipper Arjuna Ranatunga, has kept the current committee in place.
"Due to the uncertain environment, I did not go for a long-term appointment," Lokuge said. "We don't know what could happen in the coming few days."
Lokuge and the sports ministry is debating whether to call for fresh elections for the board or to appoint another interim committee.
The original term of the selection panel had ended in March but the minister had several times extended their term for short periods.
