TwelfthMan: My account
South Africa pace bowler Dale Steyn and captain Graeme Smith will play in tomorrow's warm-up game against Western Australia at the WACA after recovering from injury.
Paul Harris will also take part in the 12-a-side, two-day clash, having been rested from today’s one-day match against the same opposition.
Smith, Steyn and Harris will continue their recoveries from elbow, hamstring and thumb injuries respectively.
They will replace JP Duminy, Robin Peterson and Monde Zondeki from the team which lost today’s game at the WACA by seven wickets, thanks in part to a hard-hitting 87 from Adam Voges.
Set 186 to win by South Africa after Hashim Amla scored a sublime century for the tourists, the Warriors passed the total in the 45th over, going on to make 215 for four in a 50-over match intended to replicate Test conditions.
At the request of South African coach Mickey Arthur, the match was a one-day fixture without fielding or bowler restrictions.
In the absence Steyn and first-change bowler Morne Morkel, who sprained his ankle when he slipped as he was about to bowl his first ball, Lonwabo Tsotsobe was the best of the tourists’ fast bowlers, claiming 1-12 from 10 overs.
Amla (105 not out) shone with the bat, staging an unbroken 144-run partnership with Jacques Kallis (52 not out).
Afterwards, Arthur said: "I thought we got as much out of the game as we could expect.
"Two players had lengthy innings which meant that others had to miss out in a 50-over game.
“However, we will counter this by moving Ashwell Prince and AB de Villiers up to numbers three and four when we get to bat in the next match.
"All of the bowlers had a couple of spells and the exercise was much better than spending an extra day in the nets."
Proteas physiotherapist Shane Jabaar confirmed the injury to Morkel was not serious.
"It is too early to make a call on the next step in his treatment," he said.
"Fortunately we got him off the field straight away before the injury could get any worse and applied an ice pack.
“We will have a better idea of his condition in the morning once the swelling has had the chance to subside.
"At this stage he is not considered a doubt for next week's first Test match."
