Sri Lanka reach the top
Sri Lanka have taken over at the summit of the International Cricket Council’s Twenty20 rankings, but could soon be overhauled by their World T20 final conquerors West Indies.
Victory over New Zealand in Tuesday’s one-off match in Pallekele would assure Sri Lanka end 2012 as the leading side in the shortest format.
However, a Black Caps triumph would provide West Indies and India with the opportunity to ascend to number one.
The Windies face Bangladesh on December 10 in Dhaka, while India take on England, who are now ranked fourth, in two fixtures shortly before Christmas.
New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum and Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal lead the batting and bowling standings, while Shane Watson – player of the tournament at the World T20 – is the top all-rounder.
