India batsman Sachin Tendulkar could miss the upcoming Test series against Australia after failing to recover fully from an elbow injury.
The 35-year-old has been ruled out of a domestic game next week because of the problem, which he sustained during last month’s third Test against Sri Lanka.
He initially declared himself available for the Irani Trophy match, which traditionally precedes selection for the Australia series, but has been advised to rest.
"He is not playing the Irani Trophy and has been advised a week of rehabilitation," said Board of Control for Cricket in India spokesman Ratnakar Shetty.
The four-match series against Ricky Ponting’s men starts in Bangalore on October 9.
Tendulkar missed the first two matches of Australia’s last tour four years ago with tennis elbow. He has surgery on the elbow in May 2005, but jarred the same joint attempting to take a catch against Sri Lanka in August.
