Waqar takes up Pakistan role

Waqar Younis is to take up the post of fielding and bowling coach for Pakistan

Waqar Younis has been appointed Pakistan’s bowling and fielding coach for the tour of Australia.

Waqar, 40, previously served as bowling coach between March 2006 and January 2007 but resigned after his commission was restricted only to a Test series against South Africa.

Waqar, who retired in April 2004, will now assist coach Intikhab Alam during Pakistan’s tour which comprises three Tests and five one-day internationals.

During his international career, Waqar, a former Pakistan captain, claimed 373 Test and 416 ODI wickets.

Pakistan are currently in New Zealand, where they head into Friday’s third and final Test against the Black Caps all square at 1-1.
