Shane Warne claims he is not thinking about retiring until after Australia have regained the Ashes.
The 36-year-old leg-spinner was in inspired form during last year’s Ashes series against England, taking 40 wickets at an average of under 20.
Despite his efforts, he ended up on the losing side and wants revenge before considering his long-term future.
“I just want to play my part this year in hopefully regaining the Ashes and whipping the Poms, but other than that, I haven’t looked past cricket this summer,” Warne said.
“Retirement and when is the time to finish is all about enjoyment. When the enjoyment stops, I suppose you do.”
Speculation that Warne could retire from international cricket has been fuelled by his greater focus on his business interests.
He admits he is trying to secure his future off the field, but he is not ready to consider what lies ahead on it.
“I am starting to set myself up, but at the moment it’s just cricket and I’m trying to get through this summer,” he said.
Warne struggled in his first game for Victoria this season, but gets his chance to find his form when they take on South Australia in a four-day match in Adelaide, which starts on Friday.
