Bravo given captaincy chance
Dwayne Bravo will lead an under-strength West Indies squad, devoid of the rested Darren Sammy and Chris Gayle, in the first two of three one-day internationals against Zimbabwe.
Gayle’s wish to skip the contests has been granted by the West Indies Cricket Board, while Sammy has been handed a well-earned break having featured in all of his side’s games over the last two years.
Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin returns to the fold in place of Devon Thomas, while left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul is also included.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, who registered two ducks in three matches against Australia on his return following a long international absence, has been retained, but Marlon Samuels misses out once more due to a facial injury.
West Indies squad for first two one-day internationals against Zimbabwe: Dwayne Bravo (captain), Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Narsingh Deonarine, Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
