Permaul earns maiden Test call
West Indies have called up Guyanese left-arm spinner Veeramsammy Permaul for next month’s two-Test series in Bangladesh.
The 23-year-old has impressed for the Windies’ A team and boasts 152 first-class wickets at an average of 25.
His inclusion at the expense of Fidel Edwards leaves the tourists with just three fast bowlers - Kemar Roach, Ravi Rampaul and Tino Best - in their 15-man squad; skipper Darren Sammy completes the pace department.
Adrian Barath has missed out on selection, but there are recalls for Darren Bravo, who missed the previous Test assignment against New Zealand through injury, and Kirk Edwards, the latter having been dropped following a string of woeful performances in England.
West Indies will play two Tests, five one-day internationals and a solitary Twenty20 international in Bangladesh, with the matches set to take place between November 3 and December 12.
West Indies Test squad for tour of Bangladesh: Darren Sammy (captain), Denesh Ramdin (vice-captain), Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Kirk Edwards, Assad Fudadin, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul, Kieran Powell, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels.
