Mohammad Yousuf is bowled by Shane Watson in the third ODI as Pakistan slump to defeat, leading some to question his captaincy
The future of Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf is expected to be decided after the one-day series with Australia concludes in Perth on Sunday.
The 35-year-old has yet to lead his side to victory on the tour, and his captaincy came under criticism when Australia came back to win the second Test from a seeimingly hopeless position.
The latest one-day international ended in a 40-run defeat in Adelaide yesterday, and Yousuf revealed afterwards the Pakistan Cricket Board had been in contact with the team’s management about their poor form.
But the skipper is still hoping to stay on in his current role beyond the tour of Australia.
“I want to because to captain Pakistan is an honour for me,” he said.
“I'll try my level best but this is the best team in the world that we are playing against.
“We've played good cricket not bad cricket just part of the last game, otherwise the first game and the third game was not bad cricket.
“My objective is the same, to play good cricket and try to win the next two games. They are new games, obviously we lost the series but it's a new game, new match, a new day.”
Yousuf said his team would need to improve their consistency if they are to match sides like Australia on a regular basis.
“We have talent but we have an inexperienced and young team, that's why we are never getting rhythm,” he continued.
“They have a very good side as well. We had a chance to beat them in Brisbane and here also we had a good chance to beat them but unfortunately luck did not favour us as well.”
To add to Pakistan's woes, fast bowler Mohammad Aamer is unlikely to play in the remaining two games because of a groin injury.
