Ricky Ponting (19/12/74)
One of the greatest batsmen of his generation, Ponting has the ability to dominate any bowling attack. The Australia captain has the fullest range of strokes and will have licence to use them - in the knowledge that he is one of a team full of match-winners.

Adam Gilchrist (14/11/71)
A wicket-keeper who would make it into every side in the world purely as a batsman. Particularly strong through the off-side, he knows only one way to play - with unbridled aggression.

Nathan Bracken (12/09/77)
Brisk left-arm seamer who has been entrusted with the new ball when Glenn McGrath has been absent. Capable of extracting considerable lateral movement and difficult to score against.

Stuart Clark (28/09/75)
Was called up to Australia's squad after Brett Lee had to withdraw with an ankle injury, but was a surprising omission first time round. Is Glenn McGrath's natural successor in Test cricket but is yet to impress the selectors in the short form.

Michael Clarke (02/04/81)
A prodigiously gifted attacking batsman, Clarke has long been regarded as the future of Australian cricket. In full flow, there are few players more pleasing to watch.

Brad Haddin (23/10/77)
The reserve wicket-keeper may be used in the early stages of the competition if Gilchrist is absent. But Haddin is not a bad second string, able in front of and behind the stumps if not quite possessing the presence of the man who keeps him out of the team.

Matthew Hayden (29/10/71)
The veteran left-handed opener made it clear during the Ashes that he retains a hunger to plunder the world's best attacks for a while yet. Back in the one-day reckoning, Hayden has a point to prove.

Brad Hodge (29/12/74)
Scored prolifically in spells with Durham, Leicestershire and Lancashire, and has a game ideally suited to the one-day format.

Brad Hogg (06/02/71)
The closest Australia have to a specialist spinner in their one-day squad, the versatile Hogg offers naggingly accurate chinamen as well as useful runs in the middle order.

Mike Hussey (27/05/75)
Phenomenal record since making a belated one-day international debut at the age of 28. Hussey - top of Australia's Ashes averages this winter - has earned the tag of their new one-day `'finisher', a modern-day Michael Bevan.

Mitchell Johnson (02/11/81)
Left-armer Mitchell, the least experienced member of Australia's squad, has pace in abundance. His accuracy still leaves something to be desired, but he can swing the old and new ball.

Glenn McGrath (09/02/70)
Veteran McGrath is eying a significant World Cup campaign to conclude his iconic career. Following his Test match retirement, he still possesses that rare blend of economy and wicket-taking potential - and is still up there with Bracken as Australia's best one-day bowler.

Andrew Symonds (09/06/75)
A key figure behind Australia's one-day success in recent years, Symonds provides considerable firepower in the middle order as well as useful medium pace/off-spin. He is also one of the world's finest fielders. Has been included despite undergoing surgery on an injured bicep.

Shaun Tait (22/2/83)
Won selection by virtue of his extra pace, which will be key on the Caribbean wickets. Still inexperienced at international level.

Shane Watson (17/06/81)
The hamstring injury which curtailed Watson's winter gave Symonds his Ashes chance. But now back to fitness Australia will want Watson's all-round abilities at their disposal to add balance for the World Cup.
