Experienced skipper who led his country to a famous victory over Australia in June 2005 in Cardiff. A cultured right-handed batsman but he can be vulnerable to the short ball. Averaged 30.75 in one-day internationals in 2006.

Aftab Ahmed (10/11/85)
Talented young right-handed batsman who usually bats at three. Has a tendency to throw his wicket away when well set and can struggle against spin. Also a useful medium-pacer who took 5-31 against New Zealand in November 2004.

Mohammad Ashraful (09/09/84)
Made a century in the win over Australia in June 2005 but had a poor 2006 and has seen his average slip to 20.64 in 85 one-day internationals. Now expected to bat at six or seven.

Tall and wiry right-arm fast-medium bowler with a slingy action. Has taken 56 wickets in 52 one-day internationals at 40.48 but lacks real consistency against stronger opposition. Wholehearted cricketer capable of big hitting at the end of the innings.

Saqibul Hasan (24/03/87)
One to watch. A young left-arm medium-fast bowler who has blossomed into an all-rounder in the one-day game. Has 15 wickets in 14 matches at 24.93 in one-day internationals and boasts an impressive batting average of 45.12.

Shahadat Hossain (07/08/86)
Tall young right-arm fast bowler with genuine pace, bounce and aggression who is expected to go on to great things. Has 21 wickets in 16 one-day internationals and was the first Bangladeshi to take a one-day hat-trick.

Tamim Iqbal (20/03/89)
The 17-year-old left-hander is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Bangladesh cricket and is one the hardest hitters in the team.

Mashrafe bin Mortaza (05/10/83)
Fast and aggressive right-arm opening bowler who has an impressive 71 wickets in 51 matches. Can be expensive with indisciplined line and length. Also a big-hitting lower order slogger with a one-day half-century to his name.

A talented left-handed opening batsman with a good temperament and shot-selection. First Bangladeshi batsman to score two one-day international centuries and has an average of 40.21 in 35 matches. Touted as the future national team captain.

Javed Omar (25/11/76)
The opener has been criticised for scoring runs too slowly but that ability to stick around may give his team-mates a chance of building a total.

Mohammad Rafique (05/09/70)
Veteran orthodox left-arm spinner who will probably retire after the competition. Possesses good accuracy and rhythm and has 105 one-day international wickets in 108 appearances. Has also made over a 1,000 runs at an average of 13.51.

Mushfiqur Rahim (01/09/88)
Has made just nine ODI appearances but, having made his debut aged just 16, is seen as having great potential with both bat and gloves.

Syed Rasel (03/07/84)
Left-arm medium-fast bowler who is able to swing the ball. His bowling style has been compared to that of Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas. Has taken 26 one-day international wickets in 18 matches at an average of 25.15.

Left-arm orthodox spinner who has 52 one-day international victims in 32 matches at a healthy average of 19.65. Took a career best of 5-33 against Zimbabwe in July 2006. Potential all-rounder despite a modest batting average of 13.88.

Rajin Saleh (20/11/83)
A solid rather than spectacular right-handed batsman who bats in the lower middle order but is capable of anchoring the innings from the offset. Made 108 against Kenya in a one-day international in March 2006 and bowls occasional off-breaks.
