ICC World Cup - India

Rahul Dravid (11/01/73)
India's captain provides the backbone to his side's battling line-up. A majestic stroke player with the highest Test batting average of any Indian player in history, averaging just below 40 in ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar (24/04/73)
Voted the second-greatest Test batsman of all time by Wisden in 2002, 'The Little Master' is the leading run-scorer in limited overs internationals. He also holds the record number of Test match (35) and ODI centuries (40) and is the leading run-scorer in World Cup history.

Virender Sehwag (20/10/78)
An undoubtedly talented and aggressive batsman, Sehwag’s one-day form has dipped alarmingly in the last five months. However, almost 5,000 limited overs runs at nearly a run a ball and his ability to bat anywhere in the top six ensured his selection.

Robin Uthappa (11/11/85)
Hard-hitting opener with an impressive strike-rate who is still finding his feet at international level having only made his debut against England last April.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (07/07/81)
The wicket-keeper has become something of an iconic figure with his devastating strokeplay in the middle order. His 183 not out against Sri Lanka is the record score for a wicket-keeper in ODIs and he is also superb behind the stumps.

Dinesh Karthik (01/06/75)
Selected as back-up to Dhoni. Karthik was dropped from the first XI after a run of disappointing scores but could still play as a batsman should India need extra depth.

Munaf Patel (12/07/83)
India's fastest bowler, Patel burst onto the scene with the best performance by an Indian pace bowler on Test debut - seven for 97 against England last year - but his progress has been hampered by injuries.

Yuvraj Singh (12/12/81)
Something of a one-day specialist, left-handed batsman Yuvraj has destroyed some of the best bowling attacks in world cricket. A superb fielder and part-time left-arm spin bowler, he has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury during the ICC Champions Trophy.

Zaheer Khan (07/10/78)
A left-arm pace bowler with more than 100 ODI appearances to his name. Zaheer was the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the 2003 World Cup. He also holds the world record score for a number 11 batsman in Test cricket - 75 against Bangladesh.

Anil Kumble (17/10/70)
Right-arm leg spinner Kumble is his country's leading wicket-taker in both ODIs and Test cricket, having claimed 331 dismissals in limited overs internationals and 547 in Tests.

Harbhajan Singh (03/07/80)
Attacking off-spinner Harbhajan has overcome investigations into his bowling action to become one of the most dangerous slow bowlers in world cricket. He has improved with the bat and still harbours an ambition to be classed as an all-rounder.

Sri Sreesanth (06/02/83)
Sreesanth is an aggressive right-arm medium-fast bowler who has been in and out of both the one-day and Test side. He has shown glimpses of his potential to become an established international pace bowler, but can prove expensive.

Ajit Agarkar (04/12/77)
Another one-day specialist, all-rounder Agarkar started his limited-overs career with a flourish to set a world record for the fastest bowler to 50 ODI wickets. He also scored a Test-match century at Lord's.

Irfan Pathan (27/10/84)
Started his career primarily as a left-arm seam bowler, but has since developed his batting to become a bowling all-rounder. He has struggled for form in the last 12 months.

Sourav Ganguly (08/07/72)
India's most successful captain, Ganguly, a tenacious left-handed batsman, was recently recalled to the ODI squad after a 16-month absence. He averages over 40 in both Tests and ODIs.

Ramesh Powar (20/05/78)
Off-spin bowler Powar is easily distinguished by the bright sunglasses he wears in the field. He proved to be handy with the bat in the lower order, but his appearances have been limited by the presence of Harbhajan and Kumble.
