Lions thwarted by more rain
England Lions were forced to settle for a draw in the WICB regional championship match against Guyana after rain once again severely disrupted proceedings on the final day at Providence Stadium.
Fewer than 51 overs had been possible over the first three days, leaving the Lions unable to take advantage of a fine bowling performance that saw them dismiss their hosts for a paltry 78.
Only 13 deliveries were bowled on day four, although James Hildreth’s side were at least able to claim a first-innings lead as they added 19 runs to their overnight score of 68 for three.
Hildreth finished unbeaten on six, while Yorkshire wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow had 32 to his name by the time the heavens opened once again.
Thankfully for the Lions, the two teams above them in the table were unable to take advantage of their misfortune, with Trinidad & Tobago slipping to defeat against the Leeward Islands and Jamaica playing out a draw with the Combined Campuses and Colleges, who stay fourth.
