Alastair Cook praised England's seamers after rain ruined the second Test in Wellington

No play was possible on the final day of the second Test between New Zealand and England at Wellington.

The Black Caps were set to resume their second innings on 162 for two, 49 runs behind, with Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor unbeaten on 55 and 41 respectively.

However, persistent rain meant the players never made it to the middle and ensured the series remains locked at 0-0 heading into the decider at Auckland.

11:38pm - The umpires are inspecting conditions at the moment. A decision on whether there will be play is expected midway through the afternoon.

Wellington rain

11:17pm - THE RAIN HAS STOPPED! However, the radar suggests more could be on the way. I am far from optimistic.

11pm - My understanding is there is just light drizzle at the Basin Reserve now. Of course, it needs to stop completely for any drying efforts to take place.

10:13pm - It remains very wet in Wellington.

9:28pm - They say no news is good news. That's not the case here; it's still raining. Heavily!

8:45pm - Should there be no play, the series would be locked at 0-0 heading into the final encounter at Auckland.
