Rain prevented a positive result at the Racecourse as Durham MCCU's match against Northamptonshire, boosted by the return of fit-again captain Andrew Hall, ended in a draw.

After winning the toss, Durham reduced Northants, who lost both their opening LV= County Championship matches, to 137 for seven.

But Con de Lange struck 53 on debut to lift the visitors to 248 after Bertie Blackwell returned figures of 4-83 off 21 overs.

In reply, a middle-order collapse saw Durham dismissed for 166, despite a patient 51 from Luke Blackaby, with Hall returning to fitness with 2-13 from eight overs.

Northants extended their lead to 87 after the first over of their second innings but rain then ended the contest.
