Thomas closes gap in FTI MVP race

Alfonso Thomas will be hoping to cap his impressive season by continuing his charge in the race for success in the FTI MVP race
Alfonso Thomas took advantage of top-two players Adil Rashid and Neil Carter not playing, producing an impressive performance as Somerset comfortably beat Nottinghamshire to close the gap on the duo in the FTI MVP standings.
After claiming 1-68 in the first innings, the leading wicket taker in this year’s Friends Provident t20 produced an excellent display to take 5-40 and lead his side to a ten-wicket win.
Despite Thomas' best efforts, Rashid remains top of the overall wicket-takers list.
However, the Yorkshire leg-spinner has lost his lead in the County FTI MVP to Carter, who leapfrogged him courtesy of Warwickshire's win against Scotland in the Clydesdale Bank 40.
Across all cricket, Carter has scored 1004 runs and taken 61 wickets compared to Rashid's 675 runs and 82 wickets.
Samit Patel once again demonstrated his appetite for runs, notching his first hundred of the LV= County Championship campaign at Taunton.
Although it was not enough to stave off defeat, it was a welcome return to form in the longer format of the game for the Notts all-rounder, who is ranked fourth in the FTI MVP in the FP t20 and seventh in the FTI MVP in the Clydesdale Bank 40.
