Hutton was appointed as captain of Middlesex for the 2005 season after the previous year saw three separate players take the helm at Lord's.
He helped the side finish runners-up to Essex in the totesport League and he retained the captaincy for the 2006 campaign.
However, after a season in which Middlesex were relegated in both the championship and the pro40, he resigned the captaincy in order to concentrate on his own game.
The grandson of both Sir Len Hutton and Ben Brocklehurst, Ben comes from a distinguished cricketing family.
The left-handed batsman is a graduate of Durham University, where he regularly played for the British Universities team, and he also played for the MCC on their trip to Italy.
His batting talent is complemented by an ability to bowl useful medium-pace seamers.
After suffering from injury and finding first-team opportunities limited Hutton retired from first-class cricket at the end of the 2007 season.
