A former England Under-16 batsman who began his association with Hampshire at the age of 10, Benham marked his first-class debut for Hampshire with 74 against Derbyshire in the final Frizzell County Championship match of the 2004 season.
He was a member of the squad that lifted the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy and finished second in Frizzell County Championship Division One in 2005.
In 2006 Benham smashed a ferocious 158 in the NatWest Pro40 play-off against Glamorgan to help earn Hampshire promotion to Division One, and became a regular in the one-day side.
The 2009 season saw him score his maiden first-class century, against former side Loughborough UCCE, his first championship hundred, against Durham, and hit the winning runs in Hampshire’s Friends Provident Trophy final triumph over Sussex at Lord’s.
However, opportunities in first-class cricket again to prove hard to come by the following summer, at the end of which he was released.
