A left-arm seamer who is also capable as a right-handed batsman, Wood has become Hampshire's go-to seamer in one-day cricket.
Injuries saw him thrust into first-team action sooner than might have been expected, but Wood rose to the challenge to play an important role in Hampshire's 2010 Friends Provident t20-winning campaign with 20 scalps.
He took twice as many wickets as anyone else for Hampshire during their 2011 Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign, as well as making a good impression in first-class cricket.
Wood was the hero of Hampshire's 2012 Friends Life t20 victory; with Yorkshire needing 14 from the final over and a rampant David Miller at the crease, Wood took three wickets for just three runs.
He then took 3-39 in the Clydesdale Bank 40 final to collect a third trophy in as many seasons, having struck a maiden century against Leicestershire in the LV= County Championship.
