Christopher Whelan

Seamer Whelan made his first-class debut in 2005, after playing one totesport game for Middlesex in 2004.

He made an instant impression, taking seven wickets in the two games he played.

Still only young, but definitely a name for the future, he played just three Friends Provident Trophy matches in 2007 and decided a move to Worcestershire at the end of the season would help him to fulfil his potential.

He managed only eight Championship wickets in 2008 but he did score his maiden first-class half-century.
