David Wigley
The Yorkshire-born medium-pacer was offered a new two-year contract at Northamptonshire midway through the 2008 season as reward for improved performances.
Though no-one can fault his effort, many Northants supporters remain unconvinced of Wigley’s role at Wantage Road.
He made his county debut for Yorkshire in 2002 but decided to move in an attempt to play regular first XI cricket and joined Worcestershire in 2003.
The seamer struggled to secure a first team spot at New Road and moved to Northamptonshire at the end of the 2005 season.
He enjoyed a good season in 2007 and claimed 30 wickets at 29 in the LV= County Championship with a best of 3-10.
Wigley enjoyed his best performances of 2008 against the New Zealanders, taking 9-145 in the drawn match.
He tailed away badly, and was sent out on a loan spell to struggling Gloucestershire, before returning for the end of the season.
Now considered a four-day specialist, Wigley began with a flourish in 2009, taking five-wicket hauls against Gloucestershire and Glamorgan, but lost his place to Lee Daggett and Jack Brooks as the season progressed.
