The West Indies international joined Sussex on a two-and-a-half-year Kolpak deal in June 2008 after impressing on a short-term Twenty20 Cup contract.
The athletic seam-bowling all-rounder’s outstanding Twenty20 Cup performance was 72 from 27 balls against Hampshire.
Smith burst onto the international scene in 2004 when he smashed a debut Test century from 93 balls against South Africa in Cape Town.
He went on to play 10 Tests, 71 one-day internationals and five Twenty20 internationals before turning his back on West Indies by signing for Sussex.
Smith played in the first season of the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians and was set to represent Deccan Charges in 2009.
