The Irish wicketkeeper-batsman has had to play second fiddle for much of his senior career.
Niall O'Brien has been Ireland's first-choice gloveman since Wilson emerged on the limited-overs international scene. At Surrey, Wilson began behind Jon Batty in the pecking order then and Steven Davies became an automatic selection.
Wilson therefore had to concentrate on his batting, which was not been strong enough to hold down a regular place for Surrey but has seen him play at the 2009, 2010 and 2012 World Twenty20s and 2011 World Cup.
The Irishman, however, enjoyed a productive end to the 2012 season, when he started to be preferred to Steven Davies, who was playing as a specialist batsmen.
