Greg Smith

South Africa-born Smith is an under-rated attacking batsman who also bowls off-spin or medium pace and is an athletic fielder.

After a steady start to his Derbyshire career, Smith became a vital part of the side in all formats, frequently at the top end of the run charts and excelling in the one-day competitions, especially in the 2008 Twenty20 Cup when he hit a 62-ball hundred against Yorkshire.

His importance to the side was recognised in 2010 when he took over the captaincy from Chris Rogers but, at the end of the following season, decided to move onto pastures new by signing a two-year deal at Essex.

Smith claimed five wickets in the space of 11 balls in a thrilling three-run Friends Life t20 victory over Kent in June 2012, his first Twenty20 five-wicket haul.
