Salisbury made his Test debut in 1992 and took five wickets in England’s two-wicket defeat by Pakistan at Lord’s but, like former Surrey team-mate Mark Ramprakash, he struggled to reproduce his county form at international level. First picked at the age of 22, Salisbury was in and out of the England team until 2000, when he suffered a personally disappointing tour of Pakistan. His line suffered on the international stage as nerves took the better of him.
