Dernbach is a wicket-taking seamer whose economy rate has improved as he has developed at Surrey. He is noted for his excellently disguised slower ball, out the back of the hand with a vertical seam. The South-African born medium-fast bowler became the county’s youngest debutant for 30 years in 2005 but initially struggled, proving expensive in his second appearance - the Twenty20 Cup semi-final defeat to Lancashire.
