A medium pacer with some talent with the bat, Averis is an important member of the Gloucestershire squad.
Particularly effective in the one-day game in the early part of his career, Averis has blossomed into an accomplished cricketer and in 2001 he was Gloucestershire's leading wicket-taker in both the National League and the county championship.
He relies on accuracy and late seam movement to claim his wickets, although he has recently added an effective slower ball to his repertoire.
He had a steady season in 2005, playing 10 championship games for the club and taking 20 wickets, but was not able to prevent Gloucestershire from being relegated into Division Two of the county championship.
After a season of underachievement Gloucestershire released the Oxford graduate so he could concentrate on his Law degree.
