A promising wicketkeeper and useful middle-order batsman who played first-team cricket for his club Haslingden at the age of just 10.
Represented Lancashire in every age group from Under 11 upwards and the North of England from Under 13 level.
First called up for England in the Under 15 squad and went on the Under 19 tour of India in 2005
Named in the England U19 squad for the tour of Bangladesh in November and December 2005, where England lost all 11 games, and retained his place for the 2006 Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Featured in all but one of England's World Cup games as they progressed through the group stage and then beat Bangladesh before losing to India in the semi-finals.
