Sutton is a highly talented wicketkeeper-batsman who captained England at Under-15 level and also represented his country at Under-19 level.
Sutton played two seasons for Somerset in 1997 and 1998 before making his debut for Derbyshire in 2000.
He left Derbyshire at the end of the 2005 season for personal reasons after two years as captain and joined Lancashire, where he replaced retired stumper Warren Hegg.
Sutton was Derbyshire skipper after previous captain Dominic Cork also departed for Lancashire and Michael Di Venuto, Cork’s intended replacement, picked up a back injury and was forced to remain in his native Australia.
In 2008 the emergence of Gareth Cross led to Sutton losing his place in the one-day side at Old Trafford.
