Maynard ended his career as one of the oldest players on the county circuit, when he finally retired from playing at the age of 39. Made his first class debut for Glamorgan as far back as 1985, making a century in his first match against Yorkshire. That was a glimpse of what was to come during his career and he became Glamorgan's record century maker in 2004.
