Betts is a medium fast bowler who has played for England Under 19s and England A with mixed success.
He made his first class debut for Durham in 1993 at the age of 18 and stayed with the North-East club for eight years, before deciding to move to Warwickshire in 2001. His first championship appearance saw him facing his former employers and he responded with figures of 5-22.
Inconsistent performances resulted in a move to Middlesex for the 2004 season, where he experienced better times in both forms of the game.
He played half of Middlesex's County Championship games in 2005, taking 22 wickets at an average of 38.
A useful batsman lower down the order, Betts can chip in with timely runs.
