The opening batsman, who is also a talented fielder, began his senior career at Middlesex having also represented the ECB Under-19 A team, Durham UCCE and British Universities.
However, he struggled to hold down a first-team place at Lord’s and moved to Hampshire in 2004 where he became a regular.
He scored an unbeaten century in only his second Frizzell County Championship match for Hants, against Leicestershire.
In 2005 he helped them lift the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy and finish second in Division One of the championship, but silverware proved elusive for him thereafter at the Rose Bowl.
Brown enjoyed an impressive 2007 with over 1,000 first-class runs, including three centuries. However, his opportunities in the one-day game were limited in 2008 and he joined Surrey at the end of the campaign.
He enjoyed a steady if unspectacular 2009, falling eight short of 1,000 championship runs, and earned a contract until the end of the 2011 campaign.
