Joined Leicestershire as one of their overseas players in 2006 after initially impressing the county when he played for their second XI in 2004.
The Foxes continued to monitor his progress and he made his Test debut against Australia at Sydney in January 2005, when he impressed the Pakistan management despite failing to take a wicket.
He then shot to prominence during England’s winter tour in 2005 when he claimed 10 wickets during a warm-up match to help Pakistan A claim a surprise six-wicket victory.
Was recalled to the Pakistan squad for the third and final Test in place of Shabbir Ahmed, although he missed out on selection in the starting line-up.
Made his one-day international debut in the fifth and final game of the series against England in Rawalpindi and made a dream start, dismissing Marcus Trescothick third ball. Also removed Matt Prior in his third over to finish with impressive figures of 2-14 from seven overs.
He signed for Surrey in 2008 as their overseas player.
