Kartik is a talented left-arm spinner, with a high-arm action, possessing all the necessary weapons - the tantalising loop, the ability to extract sharp turn and bounce, and the subtle variations.
He was on the fringes of India's national team for some time, but never managed to hold down a regular place in the side.
Kartik played for Lancashire in 2006 and impressed enough for Middlesex to offer him a contract for 2007. He shone as Middlesex won the Twenty20 Cup the following season, claiming 14 wickets at 20 apiece, and returned to Lord’s in 2009.
Kartik joined Somerset for 2010, when they were runners-up in all three domestic competitions, and he endured more frustration the following year as Somerset were second best in the Friends Life t20 and Clydesdale Bank 40.
He moved to newly-promoted Surrey ahead of the 2012 season.
