Peng became Durham's youngest ever player to feature in the County Championship, in 2000, at the age of 17. He marked the occasion in style by scoring 98.
He represented the Minor Counties at the age of 15 and played for England Under 19 against Sri Lanka in 2000 and West Indies in 2001, when he was appointed captain for the first match.
Peng was Durham’s young player of the year and PCA young player of the year in 2001, but a dip of form in the county's double-promotion winning season of 2005 saw him lose his first-team place.
He was offered an extended contract but chose instead to leave the club and join Glamorgan where he struggled in his first season.
Peng retired from professional cricket after the 2007 season.
