Paul Franks

When Franks retires from the game, he may look back and wonder what might have been.

The all-rounder earned his solitary England cap in a one-day international against West Indies in 2000 and was voted Young Cricketer of the Year by the Cricket Writers’ Club later that year.

Franks, a star at Under-19 level for the Three Lions, was then injured for the majority of the 2001 season and subsequently fell out of contention.

He has still always been an impressive performer in the county game and briefly batted at the top of the order, which was perhaps more indicative of Nottinghamshire’s problems in that area.

An accurate seamer and more than useful batsman, the effervescent Franks will always be a favourite at Trent Bridge.
