Nixon first joined Leicestershire in 1988 after playing representative cricket for his native Cumberland. He is unusually tall for a wicketkeeper at over six feet but impressed as Alec Stewart’s back-up on England’s tour of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 2000-01 after touring with the A side the previous winter. A talented batsman as well as stumper, he has a batting average in the mid-30s from his two spells at Leicestershire and a three-year stint at Kent.
