Biography
Born in South Africa, ten Doeschate is of Dutch descent and qualifies to play in English domestic cricket as a European citizen. A powerful batsman and skiddy seamer, he caught the eye of Essex when he shone with bat and ball while playing for Western Province during their pre-season tour in 2003. He was playing club cricket in Holland at the time and initially joined Essex on trial in June 2003 until the end of the season, during which time he impressed enough to earn a two-year contract.
