Scott Borthwick

Borthwick is an extremely promising leg-spinner, who is also a useful left-handed batsman.

Having made his senior Durham debut in 2008, he earned a call-up to the England Under-19 squad to tour South Africa in January and February 2009.

Borthwick made his LV= County Championship debut against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl in September 2009, claiming 3-95 in a drawn encounter as well as chipping in with a handy 26 not out.

He made steady progress in 2010, beginning with eight MCC wickets in Abu Dhabi, and his fine form for Durham in 2011 was recognised firstly by England Lions duty against Sri Lanka A and, later in August, a full one-day international debut versus Ireland.

Next month Borthwick secured his first senior five-wicket haul in Durham’s championship victory at Sussex and earned a Twenty20 international bow in the two-match series with West Indies, where he claimed his first England wicket by bowling Johnson Charles with a wonderful googly.

Having been selected for the limited-overs tour of India, he featured at Mumbai in the fourth ODI. However, he fell down the pecking order and was not chosen for the senior side in the next 12 months.
