Scott Newman is an attacking opening batsman with a very relaxed approach to the game. On his first-class debut for Surrey, against Hampshire in 2002, he made 99 before being adjudged lbw to James Tomlinson. He followed this up in the next match, against Leicestershire, with a score of 183. Although appearances were limited for Newman in 2003, Ian Ward's departure to Sussex in 2004 opened up a berth at the top of the order, which Newman has filled ably.
