Despite an injury-blighted career, Watson remains a highly skilled all-rounder capable of match-winning moments. He burst on to the scene at the age of 20 when he was given a one-day international debut against South Africa, and was often billed as the Australian answer to Andrew Flintoff. Watson had regular spells in county cricket with Hampshire early in his career but before becoming a regular in the Australia Test side.
