Biography
Former England Under-19 international Phillips made his Essex debut in 1999. He looked like breaking through in 2002 but a cruciate knee ligament injury saw him miss the whole of the 2003 season. He was overlooked for the entire 2004 campaign, and, despite plying his trade in Australia over the winter, played just two County Championship matches the following year. Phillips established himself in the Essex side in 2006, although his 34 championship wickets - including 5-41 against Derbyshire - came at a cost of 45 apiece.
