Tim Ambrose

Originally from Australia but holds a British passport and is not considered an overseas player.

Made his first-class debut for Sussex in 2001 when he hit a half-century against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

He was one of two very talented wicketkeeper-batsmen on the Sussex staff, with the glove duties being shared between him and Matt Prior.

Ambrose helped Sussex win the County Championship for the first time in their history in 2003, as well as totesport League Division Two in 2005.

At the end of the 2005 season he joined Warwickshire on a three-year contract at Warwickshire, who needed a new wicketkeeper following the retirement of Keith Piper.

At the time he had scored over 2,000 runs at an average of 32.70 in the 47 first-class matches he had played.

Excellent domestic performances in the 2007 season - he hit 251 not out against Worcestershire in May - saw him named in the England Lions side to face India as a specialist batsman,

He finished the season as Warwickshire's leading run-scorer with 858 at an average of 45, and toured India with the England Performance Programme later in the year.

Ambrose won a call-up to the senior one-day and Test squads for the tour of New Zealand in early 2008 in place of Matt Prior.
