The home of Natal cricket and the traditional venue for the Boxing Day Test Match in South Africa.

The Kingsmead pitch can offer assistance to swing bowlers and locals claim that its character can be affected by the prevailing tidal conditions in the nearby Indian Ocean.

Staged its first Test in January 1923 when England toured and was also home to the famous "Timeless Test" between the two countries in 1939 – a game which lasted ten days and was ultimately declared a draw amid concerns that the England team would miss their ship home.

Scene of one of South Africa’s finest ever performances in Test cricket – their innings and 129-run demolition of Australia in 1970 with Graeme Pollock and Barry Richards scoring 274 and 140 respectively.

Venue for the World Cup semi-final between India and Kenya in 2003, it hosted the second Test on England’s 2004-05 tour – a dramatic encounter which England recovered to draw after being bowled out for 139 in their first innings thanks to a 273-run opening partnership between Marcus Trescothick and Andrew Strauss who both made hundreds.
