Relieved to win

Posted in England Women

After a few hard training days and an intense winter programme it was time to put our practice into action.

We arrived at the ground at 8.45am and Jaz (Jasmine Titmuss) was the first to discover that our toilet for the day was just a hole in the ground.

We were faced with limited changing facilities and very little time to prepare for the match ahead. Even Shawsy’s (Paul Shaw) pre-match routine…some call it a dance with therabands, didn’t sneak into the programme, much to the disappointment of the girls.

The game began - we won the toss and chose to bowl. Although originally we were looking to bat first and set a total, most of us were relieved to be fielding in the cooler part of the day, although it can be argued if 35 degrees is cool.

Fortunately we managed to bowl out the Indian state team for 125 after around 35 overs so were in some shade early.

Many of us noticed early on that anything passing the in-field was automatically four, and therefore we were optimistic for the run chase.

Women's Academy

England Women's Academy overcame the opposition and the conditions to win in Bangalore

We knocked it off in just over 25 overs for the loss of only two wickets with stable partnerships throughout. Myself and Jen (Jenny Halstead) struck the final runs with the motto of smile and enjoy.

We were really pleased with the win as it gave many of the girls a chance to prove their skills and experience in different conditions.

A special mention goes to Jaz who got her first five wickets of the season and Jen with a very well deserved half century.
