Business support has been amazing

Posted in NatWest CricketForce 2008

The wet, mild winter in Cardiff has turned into, well… a wet, mild spring and NatWest CricketForce 2008 is nearly upon us. On paper we have done it all. We have demolished changing rooms, built club houses, laid patios, constructed picket fences and conquered the world… on paper!

We have talked the talk in every corner of South Wales. There is barely a company alive which has not received the call. Alastair Darling and Gordon Brown have blamed any forthcoming recession on the credit crunch little realising the true reason is that Lisvane CricketForce has begged the business community dry! And now it’s nearly time to walk the walk on Saturday April 5.

One week to go to our showcase day and the stars have been booked, the volunteers are ready and the paint is in place. We have received a double boost in that the victorious England cricket team have flown back from New Zealand early so they would not miss our big day and Cardiff City have agreed to hold their big match at Wembley on the Sunday to avoid any clash.

We have fences ready to be erected courtesy of the Build Center (Wolseley) who have been fantastically generous in so many ways. Bellway Homes have promised us a new patio. NottsSport and South Wales Sports Grounds are considering adopting us and have designed us a new two lane net facility.

Cardiff Parks are doing all those pre-CricketForce jobs (like getting rid of the nasty stingies!) and helping with the heavy-lifting on the day. Dulux Decorating Centres have donated gallons and gallons of paint and decorating items.

CJS Electrical is right now re-wiring the clubhouse to make sure we don’t get a nasty shock when we get the tea urn going next Saturday. A1Loo Hire is sorting out the you-know-whats for when we drink too much tea with ten portable toilets.

Our friends at the YMCA are providing fun and games for the younger children on the day with clowns (no, not the first team on a damp wicket), face painting and bouncy castles. Climate Cover Ltd have heard that sometimes it rains in Cardiff so a nice new cover for the wicket might be helpful.

Our neighbours Paramount Office Interiors could not have been more helpful with access, parking and perimeter fencing.

NatWest are providing not only their famous Roadshow, but also 15 helpers on the day. Allens Printers & Stationers have donated a kitchen which we will fit leading up to Saturday. H&R Johnson have promised us £400 of tiling products which will be just the job in the kitchen, toilets and changing rooms.

Turfgrass Enterprises Ltd and Complete Weed Control Ltd have treated our defunct cricket square and outfield with a view to bringing it back into use this season. Beaufort Secure Design have been magnificent in donating windows and French doors and Dale Maintenance will be carrying out rendering and assisting in a million other ways on the day.

And the local community has chipped in with an incredible amount of help; decorators, carpenters, plumbers, architects – as well as gazebos, publicity and photo and video expertise.

It has been a monumental effort to get to this stage and now we have it all to do on the day. We’ve thought of everything, what can possibly go wrong? Well, a little ray of sunshine wouldn’t go amiss.
