Counting down the days
Posted in NatWest CricketForce 2011
There are only 23 days until 8th April which is when NatWest CricketForce comes to Witham.
I would like to say a big thank you to those who found time to help out with the patio and also to Mick Denney and Kaan his labourer who laid the first five courses of the scorebox in preparation for the arrival of Colchester Construction College.
EH Smith, from Forest Road in Witham, did us a cracking deal on the materials, so our thanks to them.
Whilst I am thanking people, thanks must go to ECB's Dave Leighton who attended our recent committee meeting and told us the club have been donated a scoreboard worth £320 for the back pitch, courtesy of Easyscore Ltd, and £1,000 worth of covers for the square by Climate Cover Ltd.
Our thanks to these companies and to Dave for liaising with them on our behalf.
Further thanks must go to NatWest who are bringing 20 volunteers to help on the day.
So what’s next? Here are few of the upcoming tasks:
15th March - The levelling of the driveway will start (G&B Finch); the crush for the patio arrives.
21st March - The new windows will be installed (Crittalls); Tony Davis starts on the electrics; the bar roof will be replaced and electrics run through; insulation and plasterboard go up in the pavilion; lighting tracks go up.
25th March - Colchester Construction College start on the scorebox.
1st April - Colchester Construction College continue on the scorebox; finalise equipment and catering requirements for the day.
5th April - Witham CC take part in Essex CCC press day.
8th April - NatWest CricketForce.
The next issue will itemise a schedule and the projects to take place on the day. We have heard that Mike Gatting will be attending to help as will our MP Priti Patel.
Help is still required though. We really could do with the help of a chippy if anyone knows one? We have a case of wet rot and need someone to enable the spray to get to the infected area.
We are still looking for help with the re-pointing of the wall. If anyone has any contacts for plasterboarding, fencing, studwork or roof tiles then please email me.
Our project is going to be advertised on BBC Radio Essex and the Braintree and Witham Times want to come down next week. I also did a guided tour with the ECB website - watch the video which is embedded at the bottom of this page.
