Fireworks to start with

Nine members of England Women’s squad, along with members of the management team arrived in Melbourne late last Tuesday night (Jan 22) to be reunited with the four players who have been playing in Australia since September (Beth Morgan, Jenny Gunn, Isa Guha and Lydia Greenway).
The squad is in Australia to contest a Twenty20 match, five ODIs and The Ashes. It all kicks off with the Twenty20 at the MCG, which will be played just before Australia men take on India in their Twenty20 contest.
To overcome the soaring temperatures in Melbourne (25 degrees +) an optional dip in the sea was offered after training on day two.
Five players and two members of the management took up this opportunity, which was completed with a swim out to the “buoy” about 100m from land.
No mean feat with the swell pulling you back and shouts of “but I’m out of my depth in the sea.”
Day 3 saw some Neighbours spotting with “Connor” papped at least three times…perhaps he’s following us…
Saturday 26 was Australia Day, but also assistant coach Mark Lane’s 40th birthday. Our manager, Megan, an adopted Brit who hails from Melbourne, organised a delicious team meal on the banks of the Yarra river, followed by “probably the best firework display I’ve ever seen” according to Sussex all-rounder Rosalie Birch.
Big words indeed for one who’s from Lewes – home of the fireworks in England apparently!
